Hi all, in preparation of the end of summer, Me and Andrew took a day to south of Mission, and hunted around, then found a perfect spot. So, on with the pictures.
We drove around trying to find a good spot. Well, we went in between two of the legs of the junction wye, parked the car, and then, before we even got out, a train horn was sounded. So, immediate running to a spot occurred, and we didn't arrive in time to get setup, but any shot is better than none!
What a nice surprise, a BC Rail Unit.
While the first train was still crossing the bridge, another horn sounded, and another train came into view, and stopped just short of the switch.
A video of the train is viewable here: ( I accidentally kicked the tripod when walking away :
*** I am having issues with this video, I will get it up ASAP***
Well, lighting was bad in that spot. (facing directly to the sun, hence the video.) So, back into the car, and off to drive around to look for a different spot. By fluke we found a good spot, and there we stayed for the rest of the day. First up was a empty coal train.
The hornage was interesting, it seemed like it was 2 different trains, but no, it was just the weirdness of the valley, right?
But wait! There was a different sounding horn, it wasn't just a single train after all. A CN Stack came ripping into view.
And, perfect timing of the shutter provided this
Going away shot.
Meanwhile the first coal train from the first pic stopped, before crossing the bridge. We soon found out why, as the Huntington local went south.
After the local passed, the coal train resumed.
Weird green bug crawled on my tripod, excuse the randomness.
My favorite and best photo of all time followed after, but even it wasn't enough to get me into RP.net. Still love it!
A CN Train followed minutes later, after getting stuck waiting for the RMR.
Well, again, 2 sets of different horns went off at the same time, and I knew i was in for another perfect photo meet. Then guess what? The sun went behind the clouds for the first time all day. Wrecked an awesome picture. You can see the edge of the sun just a couple cars back.
We waited a while, and then another CN showed up.
Then we heard the Huntington local heading back up to Mission, so we drove furiously over to by the little trestle we spotted earlier on that line. Got there just in time.
Back at the spot we were at earlier, and SD70M-2 finally showed up.
After that the lighting wasn't very good for pictures, so I tried a video for the next one. It didn't turn out that great, but here it is.

After that train, we headed over to Catch SRY through Clayburn Junction. Pictures from that will follow in the next thread, A day of Railfanning Part II
