Just found this site a minutes ago actually and thought I'd join in.
I'm origonally from BC (Vancouver) and now live in Grande Prairie, AB. I'm fairly new to the model railroading hobby and haven't had the chance to build a layout yet. At the moment, I'm gathering info for a sectional layout in a 1920- 1930 era. My dream layout is the Royal Hudson from N. Van to Squamish, but my first layout will be more of a switching setup to practice on and learn some much needed skills. All I got room for is the sectional style.
Because I'm new, if anyone here has some advice for me i would really appreciate it.
The scale I'll be going with is HO and most of the sections will be around 5x3. I don't think I'll do anything in a round and round type of thing....more like a point to point. I like the switching idea. Was thinking of making the first couple of sections a freight yard. And it'll most likely be in the steam era. I've got diesels but they don't seem to have the same appeal.
Any ideas?

Well personally I only have Locomotives and Rollingstock in HO right now, so I'm not the best person to ask about modelling a Layout. Maybe later this I will be able to get my own layout going though.
But I would like to say welcome aboard Lorne, and may you find this forum to be full of information that fancy's your taste buds. ;D

Are you stalking me? Definitely try to get a lot of switching in, as I find mainlines get boring if they're under two miles long....

Trainboy....funny seeing you here too.
I'll agree with you on the boredom of the run around type of thing. You can look at a train running in a circle for only so long.
