Wow ! Tons of questions here, but let me ask you one per post :
What about the video itself ? How did you record this ? I believe there is an "internal" way for a computer to record what is being displayed on screen . Any special "programs" needed for this ?
and , well, a quick one more question . The sounds from the freight cars themselves . Is it a soundtrack for the whole train , or do the cars have updated wagon sound files installled within each one of them ?
Once again , wow ! This is something else !

Hey Jean. I'll answer the questions best I can.
1. The video is recorded with a Freeware / Payware program called FRAPS. This records computer games. There is a Freeware version that records only 30 seconds per video. And the Payware version records unlimited amount of time. I have the Full version of FRAPS (payware).
2. The train cars have some sounds from payware cars, as SLI sounds, and the rest come from Matt Floracks Default freight car sounds replacements. IMO this is 3 times better than the default sounds, if you like to know where to get the sounds let me know and I'll get you the link.
Hope that answered your questions, and if you have more please feel free to ask.

Thanks, Barry . The 30 seconds freeware version would be all that my own / low-resources computer could handle at this point .
I certainly do know that such digital videos create monster-sized files, and are best stored on YouTube, or burnt to a CD , etc ...
With today's 100 to 200 freight car trains , I have witnessed a 15 miles per hour train , rounding the extremely sharp wye at the New Westminster end of the Petallo Bridge , taking a full 15 - 20 minutes to completely go by.
As you can imagine , a 200 car empty coal train , with all the cars just about carbon copies of each other ( I call this the "communist" ( CNCP) approach to railroading ... ) , gets redundant after a while ... but the high pitched "screeching" flange wheel sounds , drawbars loudly snapping , and metal "howling" under stress, is what keeps you on your toes all along.
Lots of homework to do, here ... ;D
Thanks !

Yeah I just made another video its nearly 4 and a half minutes long and nearly 700 MB. You do two of those and you got 1.4 GIG worth of raw FRAPS video taking up useless space.
